DIN 50979 is a standard for galvanic zinc and zinc alloy coatings on ferrous materials with additional chromium(VI)-free post-treatments. It defines designations, layer thicknesses, minimum corrosion resistance, and test methods, forming the basis for many zinc, zinc-nickel, and zinc-iron systems.
